North America’s first solar eclipse since a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, will look completely different. This time, as well as being only partially covered, the sun will appear on the eastern horizon while partially eclipsed — a rare and beautiful sight, albeit one that demands a clear sky on the horizon.
From most locations, a crescent sun will rise vertically, but from some to the extreme northeast in Maine, the cusps of the sun’s crescent will appear as two separate points on the horizon in a rare “double sunrise.”
