The first visual piece of pre-hype content for MLB The Show 25 released on Monday, February 3. It was a small reveal in that it was just six screenshots, but for fans hungry for the upcoming release, it serves to whet the appetite for the new game.

The first of the six images is above, and it features Houston Astros star Yordan Alvarez.

As you’ll notice from most of the screenshots, the renders look very similar to previous versions. However, the lighting and shaders have seemingly received some love.

Some fans have complained about the game’s seemingly stagnant visuals, but I don’t share that opinion. MLB The Show already looks stellar, and changing player models is a bigger deal than most realize.

It can affect other aspects of the game—especially for a title on an annual cycle. If The Show’s models woefully lagged behind industry standards, it would be one thing. However, that’s not the case.

Incremental improvements in the area of visuals are a small thing if the game progresses in other areas. With that said, here is a look at the other five screenshots.

MLB The Show 25 Release Date and Gameplay Trailer Info

The new game will release on March 18, with users who pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition gaining early access on March 14. We haven’t learned who will be on the cover of the Digital Deluxe Edition.

However, that could be unveiled on Tuesday, February 4, when the first gameplay trailer is expected. A legend is expected to be on the cover, but that’s not always how it works with the series.

The last time The Show had a legend on the cover of the Digital Deluxe Edition was in 2023 when Derek Jeter returned to the series and got his own Moments feature.

MLB The Show 25 Feature Updates

The Road to the Show feature has received some noteworthy attention, and fans should also expect to see some under-the-hood updates for Franchise mode. However, major changes with the mode aren’t expected.

I’m particularly excited about the new content and approach with Diamond Dynasty. There will be a new approach to the content rollout, how collections are handled, and I’m expecting to see new series and card types.

We should know more on Tuesday when we might also see a roadmap for the feature reveal ahead of release.
