It’s been more than a year since The Lincoln Lawyer’s shocking cliffhanger that stunned defense attorney Mickey Haller himself, framed for a murder he didn’t commit. Now, Netflix, which renewed the series last January, has released the first look trailer for the show’s Season 4, in which Mickey faces the ultimate test in his fight for his life, freedom and reputation as he tries to prove his innocence.

The trailer opens with a stark reminder of the jaw-dropping moment when Mickey was pulled over by cops and former client, conman Sam Scales, was discovered dead in the trunk of his powder-blue Lincoln. The preview provides a harrowing glimpse of Mickey behind bars, forced to experience the hollow reality of the legal advice he has given clients for years.

“As proud of the first three seasons as we are, we can say without hesitation that Season 4 is our most personal and emotional season yet,” say co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez. “It presents the biggest stakes and the biggest challenge for Mickey and his team because now Mickey’s the client.”

The Trial of Mickey’s Life

In the trailer, Manuel García-Rulfo’s Mickey seems confident as he explains his approach. “Every murder case is like a tree, and it’s the prosecutor’s job to feed and water that tree,” he says. “I’m going to cut that tree down to the ground.”

But this time, he’s facing a formidable opponent in a ruthless prosecutor Dana Berg (Constance Zimmer), whose reputation earned her the nickname “Death Row Dana.”

To fight for his freedom, Mickey will need all the help he can get from his closest allies.

Neve Campbell returns for every episode this season as Maggie McPherson, Mickey’s ex-wife and fellow attorney. After a reduced role in Season 3, she’s back in full force, ready to help the father of her child.

Mickey’s other ex-wife, newly minted lawyer Lorna Crane (Becki Newton), is also stepping up. She’s burning the candle at both ends as she helps with Mickey’s defense and tries to keep Haller and Associates running while he fights for his freedom.

Returning cast members include Jazz Raycole as office manager Izzy Letts, Angus Sampson as private investigator Cisco Wojciechowski, and Elliott Gould as Mickey’s mentor Legal Siegel. Krista Warner also returns as Mickey’s daughter Hayley.

New Faces Join the Cast in Season 4

Beyond Zimmer’s Dana Berg, several new characters enter the fray. Cobie Smulders joins the cast in an undisclosed role, while Fiona Rene recurs as FBI Agent Dawn Ruth.

Kyle Richards appears as Celeste Baker, a Beverly Hills client seeking Lorna’s help with a divorce. Scott Lawrence plays Judge Stone, a former prosecutor with a prickly attitude and tough sentencing record. Jason Butler Harner takes on Detective Drucker, a seasoned robbery homicide detective who proves especially determined in pursuing Mickey.

Emmanuelle Chriqui plays Jeanine Ferrigno, girlfriend of a local gangster who learns information crucial to Mickey’s defense. Jason O’Mara joins as Jack Gilroy, an orthopedic surgeon who’s currently dating Maggie.

World-renowned chef Nancy Silverton will cameo as herself and Javon Johnson appears as Carter Gates, a business owner accused of murder.

Despite the gravity of his situation, Mickey appears surprisingly optimistic in the trailer, at least initially. “I’m being framed for murder, how much worse could it get?” he casually asks Lorna and Cisco. Well, apparently, it will indeed get a lot worse.

Season 4 is inspired by Michael Connelly’s novel The Law of Innocence and promises the series’ signature twists along with its unique blend of suspense and humor.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 will be available to stream on Netflix starting February 5.
