The Will Ferrell-led Netflix comedy The Hawk is set in the high-stakes world of competitive golf, where outrageous laughs are balanced by the emotional story of a fractured father-son relationship that only grows more complicated as they compete against one another.

The 10-episode series was filmed at several iconic Southern California courses, including Friendly Hills Country Club, Moorpark Country Club, Rolling Hills Country Club, Sand Canyon Country Club, Spanish Hills Golf Course, Woodland Hills Country Club, and the breathtaking Resort at Pelican Hill.

As Ferrell’s washed-up Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins battles to reclaim the championship that eluded him years earlier, his journey reaches its climax at Pelican Hill, where the series’ final two episodes were filmed.

The resort also served as the backdrop for Netflix’s press junket ahead of the July 16 premiere, where Ferrell, Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Luke Wilson, and Fortune Feimster reflected on making the 10-episode comedy.

In interviews, the cast shared that filming The Hawk was every bit as enjoyable as it looks, taking them to some of the most picturesque golf courses across Los Angeles and beyond.

A standout is Pelican Hill, where guests can indulge in five-star luxury with championship golf, rejuvenating spa treatments, and elevated dining experiences.

It’s all about pampering and comfort at Pelican Hill, where guests have the choice of elegant bungalow suites or private, multi-bedroom villas complete with 24/7 butler service, full kitchens, and private terraces.

If Pelican Hill looks familiar, it’s probably because you’ve admired it onscreen, not because you’ve forgotten visiting it. Perched above the Pacific along the Newport Coast, its sweeping ocean views and impeccably manicured fairways make this the kind of place that’s impossible to visit and ever forget.

This heaven-on-earth getaway is Newport Beach’s only five-star, five-diamond destination. Set on 504 coastal acres, the resort’s Italian-inspired design draws inspiration from the work of 16th-century architect Andrea Palladio, creating the feeling of a Northern Italian hillside village overlooking the ocean.

This is a premier golf destination featuring two 18-hole ocean-view courses designed by Tom Fazio, and a calendar of curated experiences.

It is also home to the Coliseum Pool, one of the world’s largest circular pools, where sunbathers can enjoy tiered decks and luxurious cabanas. Pelican Hill is the ultimate retreat from reality.

One might think there’s no room for improvement, but in 2027, the resort will usher in a new era as the world’s first St. Regis Estate, an ultra-exclusive tier of the brand defined by expansive grounds, rich heritage, and exceptional amenities.

Like Lonnie, who strives to be the best golfer in the world, Pelican Hill is widely considered one of the world’s premier luxury resorts. The property has earned the industry’s highest honors, including the coveted Forbes Five-Star rating for both its hotel and spa, while readers of Condé Nast Traveler have named it the world’s top golf resort.

As Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins closes in on the Grand Slam he’s spent years chasing, it’s fitting that his journey culminates at Pelican Hill. With its championship-caliber fairways and dramatic Pacific Ocean backdrop, the resort provides the perfect stage for a finale worthy of golf’s biggest dream.
