WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event was a newsworthy show as Fatal Influence (Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley) won the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, defeating Brie Bella and Paige. In a No Disqualification match, Danhausen defeated JD McDonagh with help from an electric surprise appearance by Karl-Anthony Towns.
Lyra Valkyria defeated Bayley in a bloody match where Lyra accidentally bled from the nose. After the match, Lyra destroyed Bayley, hitting a fireman’s carry slam on the steel step, further fueling Bayley-to-AEW rumors.
In the wrestling main event, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk prevailed over Sami Zayn and Gunther after Nick Aldis returned from Gunther’s attack on SmackDown. Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk remains a one-on-one match at WWE SummerSlam 2026 as Gunther vs. Aldis seems highly likely.
Roman Reigns and Jalen Brunson fended off Seth Rollins and Tyrese Haliburton to end the show.

Fatal Influence Def. Paige And Brie Bella
- The match leveled up in physicality, particularly when Lainey Reid tagged in. Reid is is either inspired or possessed by Bret Hart, if not both. Reid stomped a mudhole in Paige’s head after a solid leg drop.
- Paige made the hot tag to Brie Bella who had a very good comeback punctuated by a side Russian leg sweep. Brie opened up with the Yes Kicks on Reid and hit a pair of running knees on Reid and Fallon Henley.
- Brie rolled into a Yes Lock on Fallon Henley, who was now the legal woman, and Henley broke the hold by grabbing the bottom rope. Reid tagged in and was stopped by a kick from Paige. Jacy Jayne distracted the referee, allowing Fallon Henley to hit a clothesline on Paige.
- Paige rolled up Reid, but Jayne reversed the hold and Fatal Influence won their Madison Square Garden debut. Henley was bleeding from the mouth.

Danhausen Def. JD McDonagh With Karl-Anthony Towns
- JD McDonagh dominated Danhausen in and out of the ring for several minutes. Fans got behind Danhausen, who managed no offense in the opening minutes. McDonagh taunted the fans and announcers as Dominik Mysterio wiped his shoes with a Knicks jersey, inciting huge heat.
- JD McDonagh did pushups, opening the door for a brief Danhausen rally. Danhausen’s 10 count punches were cut off as Michael Cole telegraphed a “miracle-like” New York Knicks comeback.
- Now it was Jd McDonagh’s turn to use the Danhausen Knicks jersey for heat. McDonagh tried a moonsault, but Danhausen moved. Danhausen put the jersey on to a huge pop. McDonagh fired away with right hands on Danhausen, but Danhausen no-sold it. Danhausen hit a suplex on Dirty Dom before squashing JD in the corner.
- JD muzzled Danhausen for a brainbuster attempt, but Danhausen countered for a nearfall. Fans chanted for Danhausen, but Dirty Dom interfered in this no DQ match.
- JD and Dirty Dom tore Danhausen’s jersey off as fans booed even more. Danhausen retreated as Dominik and JD pulled a table from underneath the ring. The table came with a Minihausen as Minihausens infested the ringside area. JD and Dom exterminated the Minihausen as Danhausen cloned a stuff cat.
- The cat clone was Karl-Anthony Towns. Kathausen. Gigantic pop. “Holy s—t” chants. Kathausen accompanied Danhausen back to the ring. Danhausen cursed JD and Dom before Kat hit a high-angle chokeslam on McDonagh followed by a chokeslam on Dominik through the table. Kat cursed JD, and Danhausen won with the Triple D. Beautiful. Cinema. Seriously.

Lyra Valkyria Bleeds Profusely, Destroys Bayley Amid AEW Rumors
- Lyra Valkyria debuted new theme music, and as solid as her old theme was, this one is even better. The bird she’s playing these days is closer to a raven than a dove.
- Early in the match, Bayley accidentally elbowed Lyra in the face and Lyra was bleeding badly. The referee had to stop the match temporarily as Lyra was gushing blood. Bayley went to deliver a suicide dive, but held up the move as the referees continued to tend to Lyra. Bayley hit a suicide dive on her second attempt, and blood spilled all over the ring mat.
- Lyra Valkyria began coming back. Legit blood has been kind to wrestlers on the rise including Stone Cold Steve Austin and Becky Lynch. Lyra came back as there were light dueling chants for Bayley and Lyra.
- Bayley climbed to the top rope as Lyra stopped her. Lyra hit a neckbreaker over the top turnbuckle. As hard as these two women were working, MSG did not give this match what it deserved.
- Fans started getting into the match late, clapping along as Lyra trapped Bayley in a Bulldog Choke. Fans rallied behind Bayley, but she finally passed out as Lyra gutted out a victory. Valkyria literally kicked Bayley’s limp body out of the ring after the match. Lyra shoved bayley into the post and locked in another Bulldog Choke on the outside.

Cody Rhodes And CM Punk Def. Gunther And Sami Zayn As Nick Aldis Returns
- The bell officially rang at 6:24 pm PST as CM Punk and Sami Zayn brawled with chants for CM Punk. Punk and Rhodes, who shared a tense pre-match interview, were both wearing New York Knicks colors. Roman Reigns and Jalen Brunson were set to go on last in the non-wrestling main event.
- The tag team match took on a quick pace as Cody and CM Punk tagged in and out. A Cody Rhodes comeback was punctuated with a Cody Cutter. Rhodes threw his belt into the crowd and there was a near-mob scene of fans trying to to grab it.
- Cody Rhodes hit a second Cody Cutter on Gunther for a nearfall as Rhodes continued his frenetic pace. Zayn tagged in and neutralized Cody with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall. Punk tagged into this glorified WWE Speed match as Punk hit his patented running knee on Zayn. Punk stuck Zayn with a flying elbow after soaking in the “CM Punk” chants.
- CM Punk and Cody Rhodes hit stereo submissions, but Gunther gauged Punk’s eye, freeing Zayn. Sami Zayn then flew in and broke up Cody Rhodes’ Figure 4. Zayn connected with a Helluva Kick on Punk, but Cody intercepted Sami with a Cross Rhodes. Punk hit a GTS on Gunther and now everybody was down.
- Sami Zayn broke up a pinfall but accidentally took out the referee. Gunther trapped Punk in a sleeper hold. Cody tried to hit Gunther with a Disaster Kick, but Gunther moved and Rhodes accidentally hit Punk. Gunther grabbed the WWE Championship and hit Cody with the belt. Gunther hit a powerbomb to Rhodes as a second official counted, but Nick Aldis dragged the referee out of the ring.
- Incensed, Aldis hits Gunther with the WWE Title and CM Punk hit a GTS on Gunther. Punk dragged Cody onto Gunther as the referee counted to three. It looks like we’re getting Gunther vs. Nick Aldis at SummerSlam.

Roman Reigns And Jalen Brunson Fend Off Seth Rollins And Tyrese Haliburton
- With just five minutes left in the show (despite the main event ending at around 6:40), a New York Knicks Blimp flew into MSG. Jalen Brunson was shown walking backstage for three emptier minutes as WWE aired a highlight video of the New York Knicks. I don’t know if WWE is aware that, while many fans in attendance love the Knicks, they came for a wrestling show.
- Roman Reigns finally appeared backstage and made his entrance with Brunson. After chants for OTC and Brunson, Reigns began overtime by saying this city was where greatness recognizes greatness.
- Fans chanted “MVP” and “Jalen Brunson” as the Knicks celebration continued to take precedent over WWE storytelling. Reigns crowned Jalen Brunson as the (unofficial) King of New York, giving Brunson a custom WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
- Roman Reigns said “Acknowledge Us” as Reigns and Brunson held up their world titles. Seth Rollins’ music hit, but Tyrese Haliburton walked out gingerly carrying a steel chair. Seth Rollins flew in and attacked Reigns from behind. Haliburton gave the chair to Rollins as they warned Jalen to stand down.
- Seth Rollins hit Reigns with a superkick and set him up for a stomp. Brunson stood in front of Reigns as Seth let up. Fans chanted “MVP.” “This is my house, MFer,” said Brunson. With that, Reigns hit a Superman Punch and a Spear on Rollins as he retreated alongside Haliburton.
