Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya and Sadie Sink, is barreling toward a monolithic domestic haul in its opening weekend frame and leaving pre-release forecasts in the dust in the process.

Holland is back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man for his first solo turn as the Marvel superhero since 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The new film continues the story of the conclusion of Holland’s third Spider-Man film, where Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) concocts a spell to make everyone forget Peter as a way to save the multiverse.

In the new film, Peter is battling loneliness and struggling to reconnect with MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batlaon), while at the same time losing control of his developing superpowers as a menacing new villain (Sink) threatens New York City.

Even though Spider-Man: No Way Home was released during the COVID-19 pandemic, the film earned an astounding $260.1 million domestically in opening weekend Dec. 17-19, 2021, a tally that included $50 million in Thursday preview screenings.

Nearly five years later, director Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day is screaming blockbuster out of the gate. The first indication of a big weekend for the film came from Sony Pictures Entertainment on Friday, which reported that the film earned $72 million from Amazon’s special screenings on Wednesday and regular Thursday previews; a tally that bests Avengers: Endgame’s preview record of $60 million set in 2019.

Wrapping Sony’s domestic preview numbers into the film’s first official day of ticket sales, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is projected by Deadline to earn anywhere from $167 million to $173 million on Friday alone.

In addition, Deadline, citing industry sources, is estimating Spider-Man: Brand New Day will earn at least $330 million from 4,487 North American theaters through Sunday. The monstrous start for the film has positioned Spider-Man: Brand New Day to blow past pre-release projections, which were as low as $180 million by Hollywood trade publications to $250 million by box office prognosticators.

While Avengers: Endgame currently holds the domestic opening weekend record after the film earned $357.1 million from 4,662 theaters in 2019, Deadline isn’t ruling out the idea of Brand New Day eclipsing that tally by Sunday.

With Spider-Man’s amazing start, Brand New Day is poised to become one of the biggest film releases of 2026. Following its $260.1 million start, Spider-Man: No Way Home went on to earn $814.8 million domestically and $1.1 billion internationally for a worldwide box office tally of more than $1.9 billion. Given this weekend’s estimates, Brand New Day is clearly on track to blaze a similar sort of path as its predecessor.

‘The Odyssey’ Drops To No. 2 After 2 Weeks Atop The Domestic Box Office

Given Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s massive start, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey’s run atop the domestic box office has come to an end after two weeks.

The Odyssey — which also stars Tom Holland and Zendaya alongside the likes of Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway — is projected by Deadline to earn $52 million in its third weekend of release. Should that projection hold, it will boost the film’s stateside tally to $396.5 million through Sunday.

Note: This box office report will be updated throughout the weekend as new numbers for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and other films become available. The final numbers for this weekend’s box office will be released on Monday.
