Samsung is again struggling to roll out critical security updates to its vast worldwide user base on a timely basis. And this month is proving especially difficult. It’s the very end of August, and only now are the month’s critical security updates reaching millions of flagships around the world.
“Samsung has been quite late in rolling out security updates this month,” SamMobile says, with millions of Galaxy S24 series still unprotected. The August update is now turning up on Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra,” albeit users may not get it until “later today or in the next few days.”
Per SammyFans on Aug. 30, “Samsung has finally begun rolling out the August 2026 security update for the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The rollout appears to have started in South Korea and should reach more countries in the coming hours or days.”
August’s update includes “patches from Google and Samsung,” eight of which are critical. Unlike Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Pixel, Samsung continues to roll out updates to an unpredictable schedule, with no certainty over who and when. With the surge in recent Android zero-days, this is becoming more an issue than ever before. August’s delays won’t land well.
Per SammyFans, at least this means most Galaxy smartphones now have updates available, or at least have updates on the way, just hours before the end of the month. As SamMobile explains, check for the update “by opening the Settings app, navigating to Software update, and tapping Check for updates. Make sure that your phone has at least 30% of battery charge left to proceed.”
While “the update is currently rolling out to Galaxy S26 series phones running the stable version of One UI 8.5,” the situation is better for One UI 9 beta users who already have the update. Users will be hoping for a better, more timely September — albeit there’s every risk the late August update will cause knock-on effects that will run for several weeks to come. We will soon find out.
