When Apple announces its new products at its next special event on Wednesday, Sept. 9, it’s going to be a lot. Alongside new Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4 and perhaps Apple AirPods 5, three new iPhones are expected. Besides the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the big news will be Apple’s first foldable iPhone. What’s not likely are the just-confirmed AirPods with cameras. Here’s the latest.
Will The Foldable iPhone Face Release Delays?
All along, the question has been when will it arrive. After all, in 2017, the radically different production requirements of the iPhone X meant it was announced in September but released in November.
And the foldable iPhone is a whole other story, exponentially more complicated to produce, surely. So, will it be the same as the iPhone X and arrive tantalizingly late to the party?
There have been contrasting reports for months now, but the latest report from 9to5Mac suggests that there’s no real certainty even now. My gut feeling is that unless there’s a last-minute jitter, the foldable iPhone will be announced alongside the other products on Sept. 9. And will go on sale on Sept. 18 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro.
iPhone Ultra Branding And Supply Limitations
I mean, we don’t even know the name of the product. Plenty of outlets are saying it’s the iPhone Ultra — though I’m not so sure. Read this for what it might or might not be called.
“iPhone Ultra is likely to ship in September, but with very limited availability per reporting,” 9to5Mac reported. It’s one of the publications which favors Ultra as the likely name.
“There have been countless reports over the last several months regarding the launch timing for iPhone Ultra. Fortunately, the most recent reporting is optimistic that we’ll see the device ship in September — albeit with limited supply,” it went on.
Exactly how limited isn’t known. One possibility is that it will appear in U.S. stores but not elsewhere, with later deployment in Europe or China, for instance.
Personally, I’m still confident that the release will be a wide one, but it’s certainly possible that shipping dates will quickly slip from available now to six or eight weeks away.
For sure, the announcement, when we will finally learn what it looks like, how much it will cost and what it will be called, will come on Sept. 9. After that, well, it’s anyone’s guess. I’ll be reporting if there’s even the ghost of a whisper of something changing, so please check back.
