The classic mecha anime Megazone 23 has been given a decent breakdown for newer viewers from the team at Did You Know Anime prior to its November re-release.
The breakdown (shown below) goes into decent details about how the project started out, with various changes from being a longer running TV series to a bespoke OVA.
It’s a helpful introduction to the series, as Megazone 23 was a formative 80s mecha anime with an impressive creative team behind it.
The mecha designs by Shinji Aramaki obviously being notable, as his transforming bike design for the Garland is now regarded as a classic.
Something that toy maker Arcadia worked hard on, when they brought their version of the Garland to life a few years back.
As for this new Blu-ray re-release, it is a streamlined version of the Omega Edition boxset, but it contains all the important anime content and at a much cheaper price point.
So if you wondered how one of the most influential science fiction and mecha anime of the 80s came about, you now at least have a solid explantation of the show available.
Megazone 23 is re-released November 12 on Blu-ray for $29.99 and can be pre-ordered via Amazon.
