Updates Nov. 30 with more details and other iPhone deals.
Black Friday discounts on iPhones are hard, though not impossible, to find. But while Apple’s shopping event of gift cards with purchases of iPhone 14, iPhone 15 and iPhone SE is now live until Monday, Dec. 2, Apple isn’t offering a gift card with its latest iPhone 16 series. But there are still ways to save on the latest iPhones. You could choose a phone from Walmart, which comes with a $300 gift card. That’s more generous than Apple’s gift card offer, and it applies to purchases of the iPhone 16 series, unlike Apple’s offers, Or, if you have a phone you can trade in, AT&T has a deal which can knock up to $1,000 off the price of the flagship iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The Walmart gift offer until the end of Dec. 8, 2024 and sees purchases of the iPhone 16 Pro, for example, attract the $300 gift card. It’s available on the black titanium, desert titanium and natural titanium finishes. Or you could pick the iPhone 16 in the gorgeous ultramarine color (and others), with the same $300 gift card even though the phone itself costs less than the Pro models.
As for the AT&T deal, here’s how it works. The list price for the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max with 256GB storage is $1,199, while the smaller-screened iPhone 16 Pro with 128GB costs $999. When you buy the iPhone 16 Pro Max using the AT&T installment plan, that works out at $33.34 per month across 36 months.
However, if you have a phone you can trade in, you can save up to $1,000, which drops the price of the monthly installments to $5.56 instead. Say you have an iPhone 13 Pro Max in good condition—that is, it turns on and off and functions normally, has buttons and cameras which work, is free of dents and scratches and has a touchscreen and back glass without damage—your phone would attract the maximum trade-in of $1,000 at trade-in. Note that you need to have an eligible unlimited plan to qualify. This $1,000 trade-in is more than the estimated market value of $255.
Similarly, if you are buying an iPhone 16 Pro with 128GB storage, Instead of 36 monthly installments of $27.78, you pay nothing if you trade in the same iPhone 13 Pro Max, for instance.
Not every phone qualifies for the maximum $1,000 trade-in, in which case the monthly cost would be different, of course. On the AT&T website, type in the details of which phone you have (and it doesn’t have to be an iPhone) to see what your trade-in value is.
This deal won’t suit everyone—if you are with Verizon and don’t want to change, for instance—but if you have an older phone in decent condition, this is a clever way to maximize its value.
