Looking for Friday’s Strands hints, spangram and answers? You can find them here:
I have returned, dearest Strandistas, to guide you to victory and just in time for Christmas, too. This will be the very first Christmas for the New York Times’s newest word puzzle game, and I hope we get a themed puzzle on Christmas day. There are so many possible Christmas themes: Christmas songs, Christmas movies, Christmas characters. Tis the season!
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.
Spoilers ahead.

Today’s Strands Breakdown
This was pretty tricky at first, but at last I found MONASTERY and then ABBEY, and at this point I could see where the spangram would likely be, with just one route between those two words. I worked backwards and found SPACES and then searched until I found SACRED. MOSQUE and TEMPLE came next, and finally TABERNACLE, which is a tough word but the only one remaining.
