Happy lazy Sunday, dearest Wordlers! It being a lazy sort of day, I think I’ll make our preamble quick. No reason to dally, we have a whole lot of laziness to achieve . . . prior to the Big Game. It’s Super Bowl LIX today, with the Chiefs and the Eagles duking it out to see if maybe this year, Kansas City will lose. Of course, the NFL is only one of many things you can watch today. Check out my streaming guide for more TV shows and movies to watch this weekend.

Wordle Analysis
Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.
LOUSY was anything but a lousy opening guess, leaving me with just 6 remaining possibilities, one green box and two yellow boxes. At this point, according to Wordle Bot after the fact, I had BONUS, FOCUS, BOGUS, MODUS, TORUS and HOCUS to choose from, though I only came up with a handful of these before making my second guess. I knew the letters B, R, C, and N were likely in there, and I knew almost positively that U and S would be. Since I knew those last two, I picked a word with as many of the others as I could think of: BRAND. At least B, R and N weren’t in there, I’d narrow it down. Luckily, B and N were, and I was almost certain the answer had to be BONUS. I was right! Huzzah!
Competitive Wordle Score
I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for beating the Bot, who took four tries today. 2 points for me!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “bonus” comes from Latin, where bonus means “good.” It was adopted into English in the late 18th century, likely from business and financial contexts, meaning an extra payment or reward.
