It is very hard to catch up with all the best games of a given year, but over two days, I put five or so hours into Dispatch, the episodic superhero game that releases its final chapter tomorrow.
Now, we have some news on a potential season 2 of Dispatch, structured like a TV show because well, it’s practically a TV show, and supposedly was originally meant to be one.
“We’re going to have to at least think about a season 2. That was a question mark three weeks ago, so that’s great. It’s a very cool problem to have,” said Dispatch dev Nick Herman on the Friends Per Second podcast.
And we’ve heard from star Aaron Paul, who discussed it as well, speaking to Moist Critical, who voices Sonar in the game: “I hope that you and I get to do multiple seasons of this game. I hope we get to do more,” said Paul.
This seems like an “if they want to, they can do it” situation, given the reception to the game. Dispatch sold 1 million copies in ten days, reaching 130,000 concurrent players on Steam, a wild number for a story-based game like this that is almost 100% made up of pre-rendered animation. It also happens to be one of the highest player-scored games on the entire PSN store this year with a 4.95/5. On Steam, Dispatch is “Overwhelmingly Positive” with 95% positive reviews.

It’s hard to imagine what other ingredients you’d need here to greenlight more Dispatch content. We don’t know how the show ends, but it stands to reason that it won’t have an apocalyptic ending for its characters. Well, it could, given the option of player choice in the game. Part of the issue with games like this is that choices would have to carry over between seasons, resulting in more and more splits between storylines as time goes on, which can get difficult. But I think everyone wants to see more Dispatch at this point, and I’d even like to see the IP grow past games, as it really has the potential to be an Invincible-type universe, albeit with a bit more of a hopeful outlook on R-rated superheroes. And it’s = extremely funny.
I cannot recommend Dispatch enough, and in the past day alone, I’ve gotten a half dozen other people on board. Everyone agrees it’s amazing. Now it’s your turn.
