With the upcoming Batman Ninja Vs. Yakuza League anime movie released next week, we’ve been treated to a fun new parody trailer.
First off, Batman Ninja Vs. Yakuza League is the sequel to 2018’s Batman Ninja anime movie, which was a lot of fun.
However, to give a bit of context here, the trailer for this new movie (shown below) handles the combination of various vehicles and their pilots to form the Bat Phoenix.
The whole trailer is done in a 70s art style and also features the vocals of Mitsuko Horie.
Horie is a noteworthy figure as she has done a great many anime related songs in her career, most notably for Voltes V in this case.
Voltes V was a 70s super robot show that featured a mecha that could combine from five separate vehicles into a giant mecha (shown above).
In recent years, Voltes V has received a live-action adaptation, but the host anime itself is still highly regarded by fans both in Japan and abroad.
The whole joke here is that Batman and his buddies form up to create the Bat Phoenix in a similar way to Voltes V and many other super robot shows, which Horie did many of the songs for.
The naming of the Bat Phoenix is also likely a reference to the God Phoenix from Gatchaman, of which Horie also sang the ending song for Gatchaman II.
In any case, I obviously love this super robot inspired parody and it only makes me want to see Batman Ninja Vs. Yakuza League even more.
Batman Ninja Vs. Yakuza League will be released digitally on March 18 and available on Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD on April 15.
