One day, the mega-fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford is on; the next day, it’s off. Unfortunately for fans who were looking forward to the huge bout in September at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the most recent report is that the fight is off.

Per Ring Magazine, which originally reported an agreement between the two future Hall of Famers, the fight isn’t happening.

The article updating fans on the status of the fight was brief but definitive, with no details shedding light on what created the snag.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Canelo is preparing to face Jake Paul in May for Cinco de Mayo. If Canelo were able to lock in both fights, he would have positioned himself to collect arguably the two largest paydays of his storied career.

Crawford would be collecting his first astronomical payday if he fought Canelo. Up to now, the only mega-fight Crawford has had was against Errol Spence Jr. in July 2023.

Crawford destroyed Spence, stopping him in the ninth round. The victory elevated Crawford’s status and put him in a position to pursue a fight with Canelo—despite the huge jump in weight classes he would have to make to make the fight happen.

As is always the case in boxing, things are fluid. More news could break as soon as Thursday, February 6, indicating the fight is back on. Knowing the nature of the sport, I hesitated to address the latest development, thinking it could be reversed.

At this point, Canelo-Crawford is dead, but it is not beyond revival. Even with that fight off the books for now, an interesting lineup of fights is on the way. Here’s a look at the boxing schedule through the spring of 2025.
