US-based independent RIA Captrust Financial Advisors has acquired Carolinas Investment Consulting (CIC), a move that will expand the firm’s reach and services in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Set up in 2001 by George Edmiston, CIC is an investment consulting and financial planning firm, managing assets worth more than $1.4bn.
Its workforce of 20 caters to clients across more than 30 states in the US.
Edmiston said: “We feel that Captrust will help us continue to offer our team and clients the culture and experience they have been accustomed to far into the future.”
The integration of CIC into Captrust took place in January 2025, with the former adopting the Captrust brand, marking the second Captrust site in Charlotte.
Captrust co-founder and CEO Fielding Miller said: “Captrust got better today, and we are thrilled to have the CIC team join us. George and I have been friends and competitors for over 20 years.
“CIC has had a sterling reputation in the Carolinas which will immediately improve our market opportunities and elevate our brand.”
Captrust, established in 1997, offers a wide range of financial services, including investment management, financial planning, estate planning, and tax advisory.
It offers comprehensive services to ultra-high-net-worth individuals, retirement plan sponsors, endowments, foundations, and religious entities.
In December 2024, Captrust acquired Virginia-based Campbell Wealth Management and Minnesota-based TruNorth Wealth Partners (MN), adding a combined $1.97bn in assets.
