Destiny 2 has tried doing a week-long event that has buffed the underused sword heavy weapon class, allowing it to regenerate ammo for essentially infinite use. But, as tends to happen with any new thing added into Destiny, something is broken. For reasons that no one can fully understand, the exotic A Thousand Voices has also been classified as a sword and has been granted infinite ammo across almost all modes in the game.
One Thousand Voices is the Last Wish raid exotic that spits out a beam of scorching fire, which at times has been boss meta and can fry people in Crucible or Gambit when used correctly. It is not a sword. Of course, this regenerating ammo is a lot better than swords given that so many bosses in the game cannot even be hit with swords, including the new floating Hydra exotic mission final boss that launched last week (unless you’re flinging caster projectiles at it).
Given that the event is only a week long, Bungie is just…letting it go. They are not racing toward yet another headline about them nerfing “fun” in Destiny 2, as has often happened. Here’s what they said about it:
One-Thousand…Swords??? (May limit One Thousand Voices in Gambit, but outside of that… go have fun.)
Why Gambit? I assume because a team using it will probably just insta-kill Primevals which would essentially erase the point of the mode altogether, but I’m not sure if that’s actually been patched yet. It would be the most focus on Gambit in a long time, if so.
I do think as Destiny 2 content dries up, and it is dry, more events like this would be fun. I’m not sure how useful swords specifically are in this instance as there are very clear reasons they’re underused, but hey, they’re trying something at least.
There is just one more week of seasonal story content in Destiny 2’s Echoes episode. This week’s story was simply running last week’s new exotic mission again with slight changes and different dialogue. We have glimpsed the villain of the season, Maya Sundaresh, exactly once in eight weeks of story so far, and while we assume there will be some sort of actual fight against her next week, it’s been a very weirdly paced season. Sorry, Episode. Which is definitely not a very long season.
I am still excited for the next Fallen/Scorn/Crow-focused episode launching in a month, as that story looks more interesting than another never-interesting Vex story. For now, just go nuts with those swords as something to do in the interim. And 1K Voices, of course.
