It’s taken nearly ten years, but a Metal Robot Damashii toy of the G-Self Perfect Pack from Gundam Reconguista in G will be released next year.

While Gundam Reconguista in G was a very muddled anime in terms of its storytelling, it was still written and directed by series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino and remains a fascinating addition to the Gundam mythos.

It also featured excellent mecha designs by Akira Yasuda, who also did the mecha for other anime shows such as Overman King Gainer and Code Geass.

Yasuda is also well known for his work in gaming on the Street Fighter series, among many others, and his approach to mecha design is consequently unique.

So to have Yasuda pen the protagonist’s G-Self mobile suit was and still is great. The design is unique when it comes to other mobile suits and it deserves more love than it has got over the years.

However, while we received baseline toys of the G-Self, we never received a proper version of its Perfect Pack configuration from the end of the series and movies.

While the Perfect Pack version showed up in games like Super Robot Wars X, the toy side of things has been noticeably absent.

That is until now, as Bandai Spirits has announced that the G-Self Perfect Pack will be getting the Metal Robot Damashii treatment.

This means the toy will involve a lot of diecast, and considering its complexity, that’s a good thing.

Personally, I love the Metal Robot Damashii releases. They are wonderfully done and almost always very accurate to their host anime, rather than the more aggressively stylized and much bigger Metal Build releases.

Pre-orders have opened for the Metal Robot Damashii G-Self Perfect Pack on the Premium Bandai website, with it priced at 22,000 yen (or around $145) and it will be released in May next year.

In the meantime, you can watch Gundam Reconguista in G on Blu-ray, and don’t forget to check out my review.
