One of the fun parts of the finale for Gundam GQuuuuuuX was the appearance of the classic RX-78-2 Gundam, and its “hyper mode” version has a toy out next year.

If you are unfamiliar with the concept of mecha going “hyper”, this is a shorthand term that derives from the classic mecha anime Aura Battler Dunbine.

In that show, pilots who lost control of their aura had their mecha go into hyper mode, and grow dramatically in size and power.

Something very similar happens at the end of GQuuuuuuX, when Shuji becomes enraged, and his Gundam grows to an enormous size.

One cool thing about this version, though, is that the coloring is similar to the RX-78-3 G-3 Gundam that was known as the Grey Ghost from the novels.

As for this toy, it will be a regular Robot Damashii release, but will be similarly scaled to other GQuuuuuuX toys from that range.

That means that this toy will be huge, and it clocks in at around 40cm in height.

While this is technically a regular Robot Damashii release, due to its size, I expect the joints to be diecast.

Currently, this is a Premium Bandai-only release in Japan and will cost 29,700 yen (or around $191 at the current exchange rate).

Considering that the G3 Gundam is one of my favorite designs, and the sculpt on this toy looks superb, I may very well pick one of these up.

While this is listed as a Japanese release at present, I fully expect this to come westward via the US branch of Premium Bandai next year.

Gundam GQuuuuuuX is now streaming worldwide via Amazon Prime Video.
