Monday, Monday. The work week has returned. Back to your work-stations! Man the torpedoes! Work that McDonald’s fryer!
That’s a political joke. You know what I’d like to see from our would-be political leaders, Trump and Harris? The two of them working together at a fast food place, taking orders, making meals, dealing with customers. An entire shift as fast food grunts, working side-by-side with the other workers and one another, through every rush and every slog. Cleaning the grease trap. Counting the till. Dealing with the angry lady and her crying brood of ill-behaved children. Show me that you can do that and I’ll be more impressed than all of your speeches and debates and campaign promises.
I digress! Apologies! With the election so near, it’s hard to avoid politics or these stray thoughts. Let’s solve today’s Strands puzzle! Trust me, there’s a bit of today’s puzzle in my above musings.
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.
Spoilers ahead.

Today’s Strands Breakdown
This one was tricky at first and then, just as quickly, became quite obvious. I was having one of those days where none of the right words appeared, but once I finally found PACK, HERD and FLOCK, things became more obvious. GROUPNAME came next, which made SCHOOL very obvious, and from there PRIDE and SWARM. KNOT threw me, because I’d never actually heard of a “knot of toads” before. Once I’d untied that one, COLONY came into view.
