Another day, another Strands puzzle to solve. The year is already zipping by, it seems, as February kicks off with not a hint of snow. Yesterday I went hiking and found myself altogether too warm in a hoodie. I saw people walking in tank-tops. This is not natural. Something is wrong. It’s hard to complain on a beautiful sunny day, but I imagine the forest fires waiting just around the corner. It’s a bit frightening. I will distract myself with games and puzzles! Speaking of which, let’s uncover some words.
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.

Admittedly, while the hint wasn’t particularly tricky—Album of the year describes exactly what we’re looking for—it still took me awhile to get this started, and even once I’d found many of the names and the spangram I still struggled with a couple of these at the end. I also found GRAMMYWINS before I found GRAMMYWINNERS, so that threw me off a bit. Still, a pretty fun Strands as far as these puzzles go!
