INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton won’t play in any games this season. The Pacers made that clear in July, and Haliburton detailed his own recovery plan in August. But Haliburton has still been around the team and coaching staff during games, and he’s keeping himself involved in other circles of the NBA during his time off.

Haliburton, who ruptured his right achilles in Game 7 of the NBA Finals back in July, is putting some of his time into broadcasting. The 25-year old is joining Amazon Prime, a new national broadcast partner for the NBA, and their staff for a few appearances during the 2025-26 NBA season.

The official title for Haliburton, as Prime Video announced on Tuesday, is player contributor. Earlier in the season, Haliburton made an appearance on the Pacers local television broadcast on Fanduel Sports Network.

Now, he’s headed to the national stage. Haliburton will make five appearances on the network this season, which begins tonight as Amazon Prime covers the quarterfinals of the NBA Cup.

Why did the Pacers star join Prime Video?

“Tyrese represents this generation of NBA stars, and we’re excited to bring his unique perspective and personality to our coverage,” Amina Hussein, Prime Sports Head of On-Air Talent, said in a statement. “His willingness to share his journey back to the court with our viewers demonstrates the authenticity and transparency we’re bringing to our NBA coverage.”

Haliburton joins a broadcast team that includes former players Dwyane Wade, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, and Udonis Haslem. Other active players, such as Philadelphia 76ers guard Kyle Lowry, have roles with Prime as well.

Haliburton’s first appearance on the network will come tonight, December 9, during NBA Cup play. The Miami Heat take on the Orlando Magic, then the New York Knicks battle the Toronto Raptors, and Haliburton will be a part of the postgame coverage as a part of the program called NBA Nightcap.

According to the announcement from Prime, Haliburton will document his recovery from an Achilles injury sustained during the NBA Finals through short video features, offering viewers an intimate look at the dedication and work required to return to elite performance as a part of his role. That content will be integrated into NBA on Prime coverage throughout the season.

“I’m excited to join NBA on Prime and share my basketball knowledge in a different way with viewers around the world,” said Haliburton. “This is a great opportunity to give fans an inside look at what it takes to compete at the highest level, in a unique storytelling approach by partnering with an incredible platform like Amazon. The NBA on Prime team is doing something special, and I’m looking forward to helping bring fans closer to the game.”

What have the Pacers been missing without Haliburton this season?

Haliburton hasn’t played for Indiana this season, and that has been a big loss for the team. Across the previous three seasons, dating back to Haliburton’s first All-Star campaign, the blue and gold have been 18-30 when Haliburton doesn’t play in a game.

That’s a 37.5% win rate. So far, Indiana is 24 games into the 2025-26 campaign without Haliburton, and that ratio of victories would put the team at an expected win-loss record of 9-15. Instead, they are 6-18.

They’ve been among the most injured teams in the NBA this season, even beyond Haliburton, which has made both winning and development a challenge. The Pacers know they will have their star back next season, but things have been more difficult than expected in between.

Next year, the Pacers will hope to be back among the NBA’s best after Haliburton heals from his injury. He will detail the latest concerning his recovery via his new gig with Amazon.
