James Van Der Beek is raising money for “families recovering from the financial burden of cancer.”
The Varsity Blues alum, 47, revealed on both Instagram and Facebook on Nov. 22 that he is selling merchandise in honor of the 25th anniversary of the 1999 sports film — all for a good cause.
For the post, Van Der Beek posed in a series of nostalgic photos while holding a football and wearing a replica West Canaan Coyotes jersey, similar to the one worn by his Varsity Blues character, Jonathan “Mox” Moxon.
“Merch drop! Excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of #VarsityBlues with a limited edition #4 Moxon jersey — each one personally autographed by me,” Van Der Beek captioned the images. “Grab yours now at the link in my bio or head over to JVDB.Shop.”
“100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own 😇),” he added.
The jerseys are currently available on Van Der Beek’s website and come in multiple sizes, with two price points available: a $40 standard replica jersey and an $80 jersey autographed by the actor.
Van Der Beek’s fundraising effort comes after the Dawson’s Creek star revealed to PEOPLE last month that he had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. At the time, he shared that he is “taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family.” He and his wife Kimberly share six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn and Jeremiah.
The actor also reflected on his cancer diagnosis in a Thanksgiving post shared on Instagram on Thursday, Nov. 28. Alongside a photo of his family, Van Der Beek wrote, “It’s been a tough year… and I’m thankful for all of it.”
“For the giant life re-direct cancer has placed in my path. For the gift of knowing what it feels like to have friends come through on such a profound level, and in ways I never would have been able to ask for had I not been going through it,” he continued.
Van Der Beek also shared that he is “grateful to each and every one of you who has reached out and sent good vibes and prayers,” adding, “It all lands and makes a difference.”
“I’m more grateful than ever to my superhuman wife who has shown up on levels I never knew possible,” he wrote. “Who has shown me what unconditional love is and the magic that comes from that. I am in awe of you, @vanderkimberly. And of course, I’m beyond thankful for the little blond army of hearts who keep me present, active and inspired just by being you. I love you guys beyond.”
In addition to selling merch, Van Der Beek will be contributing to the cause by participating in The Real Full Monty, a special event for which he will be joined by a “daring group of male celebrities” who have volunteered to strip down and raise awareness for prostate, testicular and colorectal cancer testing and research.
The two-hour special event features Van Der Beek alongside Anthony Anderson, Taye Diggs, Chris Jones, Tyler Posey and Bruno Tonioli as they train and rehearse for “the most revealing performance of their careers”
“Leading up to the final disrobing, the men will expand their limits, test their modesty and strengthen their bond with a series of rehearsals and experiences, both private and public, designed to build confidence and remove them far from their comfort zone and forge a brotherhood,” the official logline reads. “Along the way, each of the celebrities will share their personal stories of how cancer has impacted their lives.”
