It’s his time.
Jey Uso won his first singles title on Monday night in Ontario, California, defeating Bron Breakker to become the new Intercontinental Champion in an epic match close out Monday Night Raw.
The match had the feel of a featured match at a premium live event, and the result came as a little bit of a surprise because we don’t usually see titles change hands on Raw or Smackdown.
It was also surprising to see Breakker lose the title so early in his reign, but the pop from the crowd seemed to indicate the WWE Universe was pleased with the call for Main Event Jey Uso to arrive as a singles performer.
It took a pair of spears and Uso Splashes to get the job done, but Jey got it done, and social media erupted following his win. After Raw went off air, an emotional Jey was captured in the crowd with adoring fans.
Most notably, Jey’s peers and boss at WWE took to X to congratulate the new Intercontinental Champion.
Fellow WWE veteran Bayley congratulated Jey on his title win. She pointed out the feeling in the quaint, but loud Toyota Arena:
Jey’s former tag-team partner and current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes made his post short, but “Yeet.”
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods appear to be headed for a New Day breakup, but as another long-suffering veteran who saw his breakout late in his career, he tipped his cap to Uso.
Damian Priest praised Uso for his hard work and congratulated him.
Triple H, the WWE’s Chief Content Officer called Uso the “living embodiment of hard work paying off.”
Last but not least, Mami took to X to congratulate Uso on his win.
How long will Uso keep his IC title? It would be a surprise if he had a long reign. Seeing him lose it to Bron Breakker in a rematch would not be a shock. Breakker doesn’t appear to be done with his ascension through the WWE ranks.
Uso is 39 years old, and it is time for him to achieve the goal of becoming a singles champion. Breakker turns 27 in October and is just getting started as a significant WWE Superstar.
Breakker has everything you could ever want in a main-event star. However, Monday night belonged to Jey Uso.
