Move over, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell are about to meet Frankenstein’s Monster for themselves.

Thompson and Mitchell, of course, starred in Nickelodeon’s hit series Kenan & Kel from 1996 to 2001 on the cable network and in the interim, starred in the Paramount Pictures-produced Nickelodeon movie Good Burger in 1997. The duo then reteamed for the sequel Good Burger 2 in 2023.

Thompson and Mitchell announced at the end of Tuesday night’s edition of Prime Video’s Good Sports — where Mitchell was sitting in as guest host for Kevin Hart — that they were reuniting to make the upcoming horror comedy Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film, which is being produced by Thompson and Mitchell, is inspired by Abbott and Costello’s Meet films.

Among the classic comedy duo’s Meet monster movies were Abbott and Costello’s Meet Frankenstein in 1948, Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff in 1949, Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man in 1951 and Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy in 1955.

During the announcement, a lumbering Frankenstein’s Monster appeared on the set with Thompson and Mitchell. You can see the annoucement in the video embedded below.

“Kel and I have always loved finding new ways to work together, and this project felt like the perfect mix of nostalgia, comedy, and something completely unexpected,” Thompson said in a statement. “We’re excited to bring a fresh take on a classic monster story and have some fun doing it.”

“Coming back together always feels natural, and this lets us tap into everything people love about our dynamic while trying something totally new,” Mitchell also noted in a statement. “It’s funny, it’s scary, and it’s a great ride.”

What Is ‘Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein’ About?

The script for Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein is being written by Jonah Feingold and filming will begin this summer, according to Deadline. A director has not yet been announced.

The logline for the movie reads, “Kenan & Kel Meet Frankenstein follows two delivery drivers whose routine drop-off takes a terrifying turn when they arrive at a creepy, out-of-place castle and accidentally awaken Frankenstein’s monster — turning an ordinary night into a fight for survival.”

Mary Shelley’s creation made his way back in the spotlight recently thanks to Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, starring Jacob Elordi as the Creature. In March, Frankenstein’s Monster will be back again — played by Christian Bale — in director Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride! starring Jessie Buckley as the Bride of Frankenstein.
