This year’s iPhones will look radically different from anything Apple has done before in three of the four models, if the latest report is accurate.
Sometimes, Apple is criticized for updating designs gently between generations of products, but the new leak from Majin Bu on X shows three phones with significantly changed designs and one which matches the current model.
There’s an industrial design language at play here which is different from anything Apple has done, with only the model claiming to be the iPhone 17 looking even remotely familiar.
It’s the same as the iPhone 16—which seems highly likely, given Apple’s propensity to use designs for more than one year.
Then there’s the rumored all-new iPhone, possibly called iPhone 17 Air, with a super-thin profile and a single camera, like the about-to-be-released iPhone 16e. But where the 16e has a raised area not much bigger than the lens, the 17 Air has a panel the width of the phone, with lens on the left and flash on the right.
Just as radical are the changes to the Pro models, which see the three cameras, LiDAR sensor and flash occupying the biggest raised panels yet for an iPhone, if they prove to be correct.
Again, these stretch the width of the phone, with the lower panel picked out in a different color. The color doesn’t indicate that there will be a different hue on the final unit. Rather it may fit with a previous rumor that the top panel wouldn’t be glass. In Majin Bu’s images, it could be the red areas indicate the glass, which allows for wireless charging, while the surrounding areas on the Pro models are made of metal.
On the other hand, the new images could correlate with Sonny Dickson’s recent images, which would suggest that the raised model is closer to the squarish element we know from the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.
How likely are these changes? Majin Bu has a strong track record, so there’s a decent chance some of this will be spot on. Even so, there’s plenty of time between now and September for more details to leak.
