A leading online sportsbook released a 2023 midseason NFL betting report today. Ahead of Week 10 and the halfway point of the regular season, sports betting operator BetMGM has seen a 26% year-over-year increase in NFL betting. The most bet teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, are Super Bowl favorites. Those two teams most recently played a Super Bowl LVII classic with the Chiefs winning 38-35.

At the halfway point of the 2023 season, the Chiefs (+475) and Eagles (+500) are the favorites to win Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11, 2024 in Las Vegas.

“It has been a great NFL season so far at BetMGM,” trading manager Christian Cipollini said. “Favorable outcomes in primetime games and unders hitting at a high rate are the main factors in making this season a success for the sportsbook.”

NFL Scoring Down

Scoring is down this season to 43 points per game. Over/under bettors are cashing in on ‘under’ game totals at a 62% rate. Prime time NFL night games on Thursday, Sunday and Monday night are 7-22 over/under with Monday Night Football going 1-10 over/under and averaging just 36.3 points per game. Just one MNF game has gone over the total, and that was back in Week 2 with two defensive scores by the Steelers getting the game over the total.

Player props continue to increase in popularity. Through the first nine weeks of the NFL season, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was the most popular pick for anytime touchdown scorer.

“The Taylor Swift effect is definitely real and even bettors can’t shake it off,” Cipollini added. “When she is rumored to attend a game the amount of bets placed on Kelce’s player props have a notable increase.”

With Taylor Swift in attendance, the Chiefs are 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread.

The top three most bet players in all prop markets except for touchdown scorer are Jared Goff (Rams), Josh Allen (Bills) and Breece Hall (Jets).

NFL Betting: Each QB’s record Against the Spread

The Eagles and Chiefs meet in Week 11 on Monday, Nov. 20 for a prime time Monday Night Football showcase. That Super Bowl LVII rematch is sure to be the most watched and wagered game of the 2023 season thus far. The Chiefs are a projected -2.5 point favorites on the Week 11 lookahead lines.

At BetMGM, which currently operates in 26 markets with mobile and retail offerings, the teams with the highest handle to win the Super Bowl are the San Francisco 49ers (13.7%), Buffalo Bills (9.8%), and Kansas City Chiefs (9.4%). The team with the highest tickets are the Philadelphia Eagles (9.8%), Cincinnati Bengals (9.3%), and the Chiefs (8.8%).

The Chiefs (12.5), Eagles (12.5), Dolphins (11.5), Jaguars (11.5), Lions (11.5) and 49ers (11.5) have the highest season win totals on the adjusted odds and market into Week 10.

The most bet teams from weeks 1-9 for both bet count and money (handle) on spread and moneyline bets were:

  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Miami Dolphins
  • Detroit Lions
  • San Francisco 49ers
  • Dallas Cowboys

BetMGM took a $394,000 bet on the Chiefs (-1.5) in their Week 9 win over the Dolphins in Germany. The bettor won more than $358,000.

In Week 8, another bettor wagered $50 and hit a 15-team NFL moneyline parlay for a $149,000 win.

The most bet games by money wagered in weeks 1-9 include:

  • Kansas City Chiefs at New York Jets
  • Pittsburgh Steelers at Las Vegas Raiders
  • Las Vegas Raiders at Detroit Lions
  • Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers
  • Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals
