This makes you wonder how many of the men bragging about the size of their genitals may be full of it. Full of penis filler or scrotal filler, that is. Apparently, it’s become a thing for men with moolah like finance bros to see doctors periodically to get such substances injected into their penises or scrotums to enhance their size and appearance. Just take a look at what helped fill Thursday night’s “Meanwhile” segment of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert:

As you can see, Colbert called this scrotum filler trend, “Yet another sad example of the pressure on men to live up to the well-known preference women have for huge scrotums. ‘Oh Rick is amazing. I mean he’s not tall or attractive or wealthy. But he’s got a scrotum the size of a duffle bag.’”

Colbert didn’t just bag on the scrotum filler trend. He also addressed the penis filler trend by reading the following passage from a Business Insider article entitled “Forget male Botox — finance bros are lining up to get penis filler” and written by Julia Pugachevsky: “Bustamante [an aesthetic nurse practitioner who does such injections]

said he’s had clients ask him, while he was injecting them, if this is the most filler he’d ever used. When Bustamante said he’s gone higher, they’d ask him to match that number on the spot. Some clients have ended up with penises over 7.5 inches in circumference — greater than their length.” Colbert joked about how that could make your penis look more like a can of tuna. Ah, yes, you can.

What Is Penis Filler?

For those of you who have never added anything besides fun to your penis, a penis filler is a substance that’s injected into a penis to increase its girth. Like dermal fillers applied to other parts of the body, it’s injected just below the superficial layer of the dermis of the skin encasing the penis. Such injections can increase the circumference of a penis by one inch or more, depending on how much filler is injected.

While different substances can serve as filler, when it comes to non-permanent ones, hyaluronic acid is one of the most commonly used substances. You can reverse the effects of hyaluronic acid by injecting hyaluronidase, an enzyme that can break down the bonds between hyaluronic acid molecules, allowing it to be metabolized.

What Is Scrotum Filler?

A scrotum filler is similar, except that you hit the sack instead. It goes into the dermal layer of the skin holding your testicles, affectionately known as your balls. Such an injection can make your scrotum look larger, fuller and heavier. This can include reducing the amount of wrinkles in your scrotum and the degree to which it sags.

When hyaluronic acid is used as a filler, the effects don’t last forever. It’s a bit like a subscription service such as Microsoft 365, except its more like Penis 548 or Scrotum 548. If you want to maintain the resulting size or shape, you usually have to return in about 18 months or so to get your penis re-filled. Something like Scrofill, which is HA in, guess where, your scrotum, may last a little longer, like two to three years.

You can also get more permanent fillers like polymethyl methacrylate in your penis or silicone injected into your scrotum. Plus, there are other procedures like scrotal tightening that I have discussed previously in Forbes. But that’s a whole different ballgame, so to speak.

What Are The Risks Of Penis Or Scrotum Filler?

As you can imagine, such injections are not completely without their risks. If a random person were to walk up to you at a coffee shop and say, “can I stick a needle in your penis,” your answer probably wouldn’t be “sure.” That’s because any type of injection can result in infection, bleeding and scarring, and filler injections specifically can bring the risk of the filler accumulating in ways that you don’t want, such as causing nodules or some other type of deformity. A study published in 2021 in the Asian Journal of Andrology found that such complications occurred in 4.3% of the 230 patients who had received injections with hyaluronic acid into their penises from January 2018 to December 2019. It’s not clear what the complication rate for such injections into scrotums may be.

The risk of complications may depend heavily on the qualifications and experience of the person doing the injections. For example, there can be a big difference between a board-certified plastic surgeon with a verified reputation and extensive experience doing such injections versus some person who set up a shop somewhere. Don’t simply trust advertising from people and businesses doing the filler. They could be full of it.

Such injections are not cheap either. Unless you’ve got some kind of a Groupon, each injection session may set you back between $3,000 and $15,000. The cost depends on who’s doing the procedure, what specific filler is being used and how much stuff is injected into your ballpark or frank.

Why Are Men Getting Penis Or Scrotum Filler?

Now, why would men subject themselves to such a procedure repeatedly and shell out the money each time to do so? It’s probably not simply so that they can wear that larger pair of underwear they’ve always wanted to wear. There isn’t a medical condition that requires a larger scrotum to prevent or fix.

No, one possible reason may be the belief that greater penis girth and scrotal size will somehow enhance their partners’ sexual experience, because men are always so giving that way, right? This belief is a bit controversial, though, as sex and satisfaction are complex, and personal preferences probably vary significantly. It’s not clear how many people are saying, “He’s got a great personality and really knows what I want in bed but if only that scrotum were larger.”

Another big reason may be self-esteem. There are men who subscribe to the “bigger is better” mantra for everything, whether it’s houses, yachts, crowd sizes, rockets or yes genitals. Of course, people are entitled to their own opinions about what might enhance their appearance as long as they aren’t hurting anyone and know the potential risks and consequences.

Keep in mind though it may not be the best idea to hinge your self-confidence and self-image on your appearance or particular body parts. Appearance will change over time. And since the perception of appearance is subjective, that can change over time as well. Ultimately, what really matters is what’s inside you. And, in this case, that means your values, interests, insights and personality and not what kind of filler is in your penis and scrotum.
