The final piece of the MLB The Show 25 pre-release puzzle has been unveiled. Sony San Diego Studios released its Legends trailer on Tuesday, confirming some heavy hitters being added to the game this year.

The headliner is Boston Red Sox icon Ted Williams. Who’s ready for 125 contact and power against lefties and righties?

This year’s game boasts more than 200 legends, and one of the great things Sony has always is made sure the icons were available in offline modes. Hopefully, they keep that in place in MLB The Show 25.

Here is a look at the trailer; Sony San Diego packed a ton into a 30-second trailer. Just below, I’ll break down the new legends revealed in the fast-moving footage.

  • Manny Ramirez
  • Roger Clemens
  • Jason Kipnis
  • Lance Berkman
  • Jason Varitek
  • Bobby Abreu
  • Clay Buchholz
  • Gil Hodges
  • Darren O’Day
  • Hank Greenberg
  • James “Cool Papa” Bell
  • Wilber “Bullet Joe” Rogan
  • Jose Bautista
  • Don Baylor
  • Bobby Grich
  • Jim Kaat
  • Ted Simmons
  • Reggie Sanders
  • Preston Wilson
  • Chase Headley
  • Terry Pendleton
  • Mark Davis
  • Norman “Turkey” Stearnes
  • Jordan Zimmermann
  • Ubaldo Jimenez
  • Ted Williams

Unless there are some post-release surprises, there will be 26 new legends added.

It seems Sony landed a ton of former Red Sox—including Williams, Jason Varitek, Clay Buchholz, Manny Ramirez, and Roger Clemens. This list brings The Show’s legends roster to an even healthier space.

While Ramirez is mostly known as a Red Sox star, you could argue his best statistical years came with Cleveland. Case in point: the 1999 season is one I’m hoping will be captured in the game.

For Clemens, the 1986 version saw “The Rocket” post his career-best WHIP while winning the Cy Young and MVP. I loved seeing Greenberg added—I have my eye on the 1937 version, where he drove in an otherworldly 184 runs.

With Williams, the season most will be waiting for is the 1941 campaign, where he hit .406. I’d expect this card to be the one you receive if you complete the Live Series collection for every major league team.

We know about the new legends, but we don’t know which legends the franchise lost access to since last year. That detail isn’t something Sony would unveil, and it’s more likely to be discovered by users scouring the roster to identify changes.

While it’s nice to see previously missing legends like Ramirez, Clemens, and Williams added, we’re still far from where most users would like to be when it comes to legends. The most obvious missing stars are Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez. I felt like this might be the year we’d see them added, but it didn’t happen—at least not yet.

I’d also love to see Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Bill Buckner, Lenny Dykstra, Dave Kingman, Jose Canseco, Rick Reuschel, Dennis Martinez, Moisés Alou, Derrek Lee, Carlos Zambrano, Bobby Jenks, Jack McDowell, Mark Buehrle, and a host of other former players added to the legends pool.

I’m still expecting the bottom line to be a net gain on this front.

Be on the lookout for a complete breakdown of the game on a wider scale once the embargo lifts. MLB The Show 25 releases on March 18, but it hits early access on March 14. It’s almost time to swing away.
