Jim Romanello, who served on Monument’s Town Council since 2018, died Saturday, Mayor Mitch LaKind said Sunday. Romanello was 60 years old.
The cause of death was not immediately released.
“Over the years, I came to deeply respect his commitment to public service, his thoughtful leadership, and his unwavering dedication to the people of Monument,” LaKind posted on social media.
Romanello celebrated his birthday a few weeks ago and was feted by more than 100 friends and family members, “a testament to the impact he had on so many lives,” LaKind wrote.
All flags at municipal buildings will be lowered to half-staff through Thursday in honor of Romanello’s life and service, officials said.
“Jim will be missed, not only as a council member but as a friend,” LaKind wrote.
Romanello worked as a financial adviser and was a small business owner. During the pandemic, he served as the town’s liaison to the county government to help bring economic assistance to Monument’s small businesses. In 2022, he ran unsuccessfully for mayor.
“Jim was a valued colleague, a dedicated public servant, and a committed member of our community who brought passion and thoughtfulness to his role on the Town Council,” town officials said in a news release.
“On behalf of the entire Town Council and staff, we extend our deepest condolences to Jim’s loved ones. His contributions to Monument will not be forgotten, and we join our community in mourning his loss.”
