Netflix’s Best New Show Lands A Perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Netflix series launch with a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, but now the service has landed a new one. At least for now.

The show is Finding Her Edge, a new ice skating drama that should not be confused with Spinning Out, another Netflix ice skating drama that was cancelled after one season. Luckily, its star, Kaya Scodelario, went on to hit it big in Netflix’s The Gentlemen thereafter.

Right now, Finding Her Edge has 100% Rotten Tomatoes critic score, though a lower audience score for now. There aren’t many reviews in yet, but it’s a solid enough start. Here’s the synopsis for the series:

“Three sisters navigate the pressures of their family’s figure skating legacy; Adriana, trains with new partner Brayden while still loving ex-partner Freddie; a fake romance with Brayden for sponsorship adds to her challenges.”

The “fake romance for publicity” concept is certainly relevant these days. We’ve seen some stars lean into “rumors” to promote their projects. In the past, that was Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney for Anything But You. Now, people suspect this is what Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie are trying to do for Wuthering Heights. Oops, focus. Back to ice skating.

Finding Her Edge stars relative unknown Madelyn Keys as Adriana, who is a dead ringer for Jennifer Lawrence. At least 70% of the way there, at least. I do not recognize a single name from the rest of this cast list, young or old. Co-star Harmon Walsh has starred in at least four Christmas romance movies.

And…I would say you can tell. Not just for him, but this whole show has that “vibe” between the acting and writing. My wife has been watching it, and from what I’ve seen, I’m not sure where this 100% is coming from. As more reviews come in, it may lose it, but here’s what critics are saying so far:

  • The Hollywood Reporter: “Blunt, inoffensive and occasionally diverting without ever being completely engrossing, it’s probably best enjoyed in the background while you commute or fold laundry or (let’s be real) scroll your phone.”
  • What She Said: “The eight parter is a Hallmark early induction piece, but kudos to the actors who give their all, on ice and dry land.”

Yeah, see, I’m not the only one to make that Hallmark connection there. Watch it, you’ll see. Or don’t watch it, which is probably what I would recommend unless you really like ice skating or Hallmark Christmas movies.
