Disney’s TV plans have been pretty bizarre for the last few years amidst its growing pile of Disney Plus shows. All of them were either meant to be miniseries, set up movies, or both, with only a few being structured like actual TV shows (Loki, the cancelled She-Hulk). Now, we are circling back around to a “lost” character in this run, Moon Knight. But guess what! It’s not for a second season of the show.
This is coming from the recently pretty chatty Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum, who had this to say about his return:
“So I think Marvel Television has happened in waves, and I think Moon Knight happened in a wave of shows that were going to establish characters that would tie-in to the future,” Winderbaum told Comicbook.com. “And moving forward our priorities have shifted. We’re making shows as shows that can exist as annual releases, more like television. I would love to see a Moon Knight Season 2, but there are plans for Moon Knight down the road.
We’ve seen this a bunch of times already:
- WandaVision > Wanda in Multiverse of Madness
- Falcon and the Winter Soldier > Sam in Brave New World, Bucky in Thunderbolts
- Ms. Marvel > Kamala in The Marvels
- Secret Invasion > Nick Fury in The Marvels
- Hawkeye > Nothing yet, but clear teases about Kate in The Young Avengers
- Now Moon Knight > ???
Moon Knight is not exactly an obscure Marvel character, and Oscar Isaac is a significant get for the MCU, so where is he heading? The most likely place is the Midnight Sons movie, where there are reports about it being fast-tracked, delayed but at least actually existing. The roster of Midnight Sons has changed over the years, but Moon Knight is a frequent part of the team.
Marvel.com lists the current members of the team as Blade, Doctor Strange, Elsa Bloodstone, Doctor Voodoo, Wong and Moon Knight. They are still trying to make a Blade movie of course, but they have half of those guys already. Former members include characters like Ghost Rider and Morbius (Sony Morbius return????).
Another option is heading more toward MCU “street level” content despite you know, him being an avatar of ancient gods. At one point Moon Knight even briefly joined The Defenders, and Marvel seems poised to probably bring back most of if not all of that entire team post-Daredevil. And that would keep him on Disney Plus, just not in his own show.
There are other options, but I think those are the most likely. We’ll see where they end up down the road, but it may be a while.
