More news coming out from NAMM 2025 being held at Anaheim. This time, it’s audio brand beyerdynamicwith the announcement of its new TESLA.45 driver in two new high-end pairs of studio headphones.
The closed-back DT 1770 PRO MKII and open-back DT 1990 PRO MKII headphones from beyerdynamic were unveiled at NAMM 2025. Both models feature enhanced comfort, improved sound quality and a newly developed dynamic TESLA.45 driver. These flagship models provide extended flexibility for music professionals.
As modern music production becomes more demanding, the DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII are headphones designed with flexibility and sound quality at their core. With a new impedance of 30Ω, the headphones can plug into a wide range of playback devices, without compromising sound quality.
New TESLA.45 Driver For Cleaner Sound
The sound produced by the DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII is down to the newly developed TESLA.45 driver. Manufactured at the beyerdynamic’s headquarters in Heilbronn, Germany, the diaphragm cuts distortion and sharpens response, preventing ear fatigue during long recording sessions and offering a clearer sound compared to its predecessor.
The driver membrane is made from a high-performance PEEK polymer that produces a deep and precise bass, while a lighter voice coil made of aluminum-coated copper wire smooths the treble frequencies. Each driver is tested multiple times during production to ensure consistent sound quality.
The DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII models have lower Total Harmonic Distortion for a cleaner signal with more accuracy. Both headphones provide a more balanced treble response without sharp spikes while maintaining high detail and clarity across the entire upper frequency range which can help considerably with critical mixing decisions.
All-Day Comfort And Robust Build
With a closed-back design, the DT 1770 PRO MKII headphones are aimed at people recording, monitoring and editing music. The lively sound profile has a powerfully deep bass. Compared to the previous model, the frequency response is smoother on the upper mids and higher frequencies are more balanced, making the DT 1770 PRO MKII a versatile tool for a studio setup. The closed-back design effectively suppresses background noise and reduces microphone bleed, making them well-suited for focused work.
Designed for mixing, mastering and editing, the DT 1990 PRO MKII headphones have a natural and spacious soundstage with accurate bass response, even in the lowest octaves. With the DT 1990 PRO MKII, beyerdynamic reduced highs at 8kHz, while still maintaining the detailed highs from 10kHz found in the previous model to help prevent users from making critical mixing errors. The treble has also been slightly reduced from the previous model to provide a more balanced sound profile.
Both the DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII were designed for optimal comfort during long mixing and editing sessions. The flexible spring steel headband, which is made from a combination of memory foam and durable leatherette, has a fontanelle recess to prevent pressure and discomfort at the apex of the wearer’s head.
Replaceable Earpads And Headband
As many producers and sound engineers know, earpads on headphones take a beating with the natural wear and tear from repeated use. Because of this, beyerdynamic says it has designed the DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII with replaceability in mind. Both models have fully replaceable headbands and earpads, ensuring they stay a staple in any studio for many years.
The DT 1770 PRO MKII is equipped with a choice of leatherette and velour earpads. The DT 1990 PRO MKII comes with two different types of velour earpads. One is a “Producing Velour” that produces a fuller and more exciting sound with a slight bass boost. This can help drive the creation process before moving on to mixing. The other earpads are made from “Mixing & Mastering Velour,” which offers a more analytical sound for making final mix decisions.
The DT 1770 PRO MKII and DT 1990 PRO MKII ship with a 3m detachable cable and a 5m spiral cable for studio use. Each pair is equipped with a lockable 3-pin mini-XLR connector. Both headphones come with a dedicated hard case for protection during travel. USB-C cables are available separately for music creators looking to connect directly to laptops, smartphones, tablets, and more.
