Since the start of the new Escape From Tarkov wipe some players have been complaining that they are progressing through the game too quickly by gaining significantly more XP than normal. Now, the game’s director Nikita Buyanov has confirmed that the rapid pace of progression is too fast and will be changed next wipe.
Speaking during a Q&A session at TwitchCon San Diego, Nikita was asked how he feels about the current economy and player progression and mentioned that the new additions of the Marathon event and the ability to share XP across the main game and Escape From Tarkov Arena have messed things up a little.
“This wipe particularly it’s not what it’s supposed to be in terms of progression” said Nikita. “We added Arena, we added this new Marathon quest and it actually gave you a lot of experience. So the pace was increased for sure, and it’s not how it’s meant to be in Escape From Tarkov style. So most likely for the next wipe there will be some changes that will slow down the progress for sure.”
He went on to say that the progression was “too fast” but that some people liked this change as it gave them more of a chance to reach the late game stages of Tarkov when they usually wouldn’t, mentioning it was often only streamers and people who play multiple hours a day who can usually progress this fast. This is something that many players have been saying over recent weeks, and this community sentiment will likely have an impact on the progression changes that come with the next wipe.
While no specifics were mentioned, given the mixed feelings from players, it would not be a surprise if the progression in the next Tarkov wipe was sped up a little compared to previous wipes, but obviously reduced compared to the rapid progression of this wipe. A middle ground would seem to be the perfect solution, making it harder to reach the very end game content but also giving players with less time to play a chance to get further into the game.
If you haven’t jumped into the latest Escape From Tarkov wipe then you may want to do so sooner rather than later, as the Marathon event is set to end in the next couple of weeks, meaning your chance to get a massive head start when it comes to XP will be removed. We then know that a big engine update is also coming soon thanks to the recently released roadmap, and given Halloween is just around the corner there’s likely to be a spooky event coming our way as well.
