Looking for a little help with your Sunday Connections puzzle? If you’re in need of some extra clues or answers to today’s NYT Games Connections puzzle, you’ve come to the right place. Below you’ll find an extra set of hints, the categories for each group and, finally, the solution.

November is here at last. It was an unseasonably warm Halloween this year, which was great for all the trick-or-treaters. It remains a lovely weekend in November. It’s also the end of daylight saving time, so be sure to change your clocks (unless you’re like me and live in Arizona, where we don’t bother with all that nonsense). Also make sure to check out my latest weekend streaming guide to help you choose a new TV show or movie to watch as nights get chillier and cozying up on the couch becomes even more appealing.

But I digress. We have a Connections to solve. Let’s group some words!

If you’re looking for Saturday’s Connections guide, it’s right here.

How To Play Connections

Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here.

The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there.

There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can’t just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together.

You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you’re close, it will tell you that you’re one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzles, you can get an NYT Games subscription to access the full archives of all past puzzles.

NYT Connections Hints And Answers – Sunday, October 19

These are the hints that are laid out on the puzzle board itself, but after that, we will get into spoiler territory with some hints and eventually the answers. First, here are today’s Connections words:

  • GEM
  • LOAD
  • FAWN
  • SWEAT
  • CARGO
  • TAN
  • SAG
  • CRAMP
  • HAUL
  • AQUA
  • REDDEN
  • CAMEL
  • FREIGHT
  • PANT
  • KHAAKI
  • CAPRI

Hints for the Connections groups today are:

  • 🟡Yellow group – Logistics
  • 🔵Blue group – You worked out hard and it shows
  • 🟢Green group – Beige-adjacent
  • 🟣Purple group – Astrology, abbreviated

What Are Today’s Connections Groups?

Alright, the full spoilers follow here as we get into what the groups are today:

  • 🟡Yellow group – Goods to be transported
  • 🔵Blue group – Show signs of physical exertion
  • 🟢Green group – Light brown shades
  • 🟣Purple group – Starts of Zodiac signs

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are:

  • 🟡Yellow group – Cargo, Freight, Haul, Load
  • 🔵Blue group – Cramp, Pant, Redden, Sweat
  • 🟢Green group – Camel, Fawn, Khaki, Tan
  • 🟣Purple group – Aqua, Capri, Gem, Sag

The obvious red herring in today’s Connections was all about pants. PANT is even one of the words, though it’s there to plant the seed, not necessarily as a member of the misdirecting words. Those are KHAKI, CARGO, CAPRI and SWEAT – each belonging to a different group, but also very clearly a type of pants. I tried these first, and knew right away that they probably all belonged to a different color.

I ended up getting the Green Group first. CAMEL, FAWN, KHAKI and TAN are all beige-like colors, or light browns. CRAMP and REDDEN clued me in to the Blue Group next. It wasn’t hard to pair these with PANT and SWEAT. Then again, I’ve been doing a lot of all these things lately. Today is the first day in almost two weeks that I’m not working out either at personal training, hot yoga or OrangeTheory (a high-intensity interval training, or HIIT, gym franchise). My body is tired.

I used to work in logistics, so the Yellow Group was pretty obvious at this point. CARGO, FREIGHT, HAUL, LOAD are all words having to do with shipping goods, usually in big trucks (though also planes, trains, etc.) though having done this work in the past, it’s funny I didn’t guess these first.

I was determined to figure out the connection between the Purple words before plugging them in and while I didn’t see it until this point, it was pretty blatantly obvious once they were the only words left (which is not always the case with Connections puzzles). These are all the beginnings of astrological or Zodiac signs: AQUArius, CAPRIcorn, GEMini (that’s me!) and SAGitarius.

All told, not the easiest or the most challenging Connections today. A solid mid-tier puzzle.

How did you do on today’s Connections? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook.
