Capcom has just launched a website celebrating Ōkami’s 20th anniversary, where the company will celebrate the year by rolling out commemorative projects, including anniversary-related goods and events. However, there’s no new information about the upcoming Ōkami sequel.
“Since its release on April 20, 2006, Ōkami has been cherished by many for its unique setting, heartwarming story, and thrilling adventure,” Capcom says on the website. “Similar to how the bonds forged by Amaterasu and Issun during their journey paved the way for the future, it is thanks to the deep affection and bonds shared by all of you that Ōkami has reached this milestone.”
Additionally, a 20th anniversary concert will be held in Japan on April 29. While Capcom didn’t provide any new updates on the Ōkami sequel, it’s possible that more information will be revealed at a later date.
The Ōkami sequel was first announced at The Game Awards 2024, and it’s being directed by Hideki Kamiya, who also directed the original game. Kamiya’s new studio, Clovers, will also help develop this sequel.
The first Okami got an HD remaster for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch almost a decade ago, while its spiritual successor, Ōkamiden, is still stuck on the Nintendo DS. I’d love to see that game receive a port to tide us over until the Ōkami sequel is released.

Even if the Ōkami sequel isn’t released this year, Capcom is about to have a pretty solid first half of 2026 with Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, and Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection.
