Finnish tech company ŌURA has just announced its latest smart ring, called Oura Ring 4. It’s claimed to be the most accurate ring from the company yet, and has new sizing options and a new companion app.Yesterday, I reported that a new Ring could be just days away. That turned out to be right. Here’s all you need to know.

I’ve tested more than a handful of smart rings and the Oura Ring is the best I’ve tried. That’s not just down to the convenience and ease of wearing a light, slim and comfortable ring 24 hours a day. It’s also because of the accessibility and information offered in the app and its elegant design. The software is about to change, as well as the hardware.

Oura Ring 4: Design

The new ring is just 2.88mm thick and lighter than before—it weighs between 3.3g and 5.2g depending on the size. It’s available in more sizes than before, from 4 to 15, though it’s worth noting that owners of current or previous models are advised to resize as they may differ from previously. There are six colors, Black, Stealth, Silver, Brushed Silver, Rose Gold, and Gold.

Where previous rings have raised sensors, here they are more discreet, because they’re recessed, giving a fully round interior shape—the sensors have a height of just 0.3mm. This adds to the comfort and may contribute to changes in the fit. As before, the new Oura Ring 4 is made of titanium, but this is the first fully titanium ring from the company.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, that pleasant dimple in the current Oura Ring Horizon design has been incorporated here, too. Hurrah.

Oura Ring 4: Smart Sensing

This is one of the new ring’s breakthroughs, the company says, using an algorithm that responds to each user’s finger physiology, such as distinct features including skin tone. Combined with BMI and age, it means the sensors can measure more accurately to your individual finger.

The sensors on board include red and infra-red LEDs, for measuring blood oxygen levels while you sleep, while other LEDs measure heart rate, heart rate variability and respiratory rate, again, while you sleep. There’s also a temperature sensor and an accelerometer.

In all, the ring can track more than 30 health and wellness metrics.

Oura Ring 4: Battery Life

This is now extended and can last for up to eight days.

Oura Ring 4: Improved App

The app has always been a key element of the Oura Ring and the new version is updated with a more streamlined look and improved insights. Oura Labs, already available on iPhone, will be extended to Android users, too. And Oura Advisor will use generative AI to build a personalized experience.

Oura Ring 4: Availability

It’s available to order now and will start shipping in less than two weeks, on Oct. 15, 2024. Pricing is from $349 (£349 in the U.K.), which is $50 more than Generation 3 Rings, but the monthly subscription stays as is, at $5.99 (£5.99 in the U.K.).
