Samsung is about to release One UI 7 to a huge number of Galaxy phones, including S24, S23 and S22 handsets. This is important, because the Android 15 operating software comes as part of One UI. But the release date, previously set for April 10 in the U.S., is now anybody’s guess.
According to SamMobile, picked up by 9to5Google, the U.S. release date has now been airbrushed out of Samsung’s announcements about when the software is coming.
This is important because Android 15 contains a huge raft of new features, and, just as crucial, Samsung has added cool extras such as the neat Now Bar for the home page.
To be clear, it’s already on the latest round of smartphones, the Galaxy S25 series released earlier this year, but it’s due to come to a huge tranche of earlier handsets in the coming days.
But while the Samsung news site says that “the official rollout of One UI 7 will start April 7,” an attached footnote clarifies that the availability “may vary by market.”
Specifically, previous references to a U.S. release of April 10 have now vanished from Samsung. Fellow contributor Zak Doffman has more on the security aspects of this here.
When will it come, exactly?
The good news is that though there’s no exact date, Samsung on its U.S. site is still listing “this April” for the rollout—though what looks like it should be a clickable tile leads you nowhere. Which suggests that the delay will be a matter of days or weeks, no more.
Other regions are still predicted to be on track for the rollout to begin on April 7. The Australia news page has also recently changed to reflect a less specific release schedule.
So, what’s happening?
It could be an abundance of caution from Samsung, knowing that the April 10 release isn’t quite certain any more. But that doesn’t mean it is necessarily much later.
SamMobile has more to add: “The fact that Samsung announced an exact date in the first place, on March 18, was odd enough. Now, these recent events concerning the US and Australia Newsroom portals only add to the peculiarity of how Samsung handled its One UI 7 announcements,” it says.
We’ll find out more as we get closer to April 7, let’s hope.
