Google and Samsung have just released critical Android updates. “The most severe of these issues is a critical security vulnerability in the System component.” Google warns it “could lead to remote code execution with no additional execution privileges needed.”

We know that CVE-2025-48593, the remote code execution vulnerability called out by Google, affects all supported versions of Android. We know little more as yet, with Google withholding detail as usual until the fix has been widely deployed.

That fix is included in Samsung’s security release for November. You can check if your Galaxy phone is eligible for the update here. Whilst Google’s core Android bulletin this month is lightweight, having moved to a quarterly schedule, Samsung has a raft of other fixes for Galaxy smartphones, including plenty categorized as high severity.

Per SammyFans, “Samsung has started rolling out the latest security update for Galaxy devices. This time, the update is first reaching the Galaxy A17 5G, instead of the premium Galaxy Z and S series models.” The reason for this is unclear.

If you have one of those models, you can check if the update is available now. As ever, it will roll out by model, region and carrier, and it’s never clear who gets updated, when. You just need to check your device regularly.

“To check if your phone has received the update, go to Settings >> Software update >> Download and install. If the update is available for your device, follow the instructions to install it.” Given the severity of Android’s fix, it’s advisable to install right away.

Meanwhile, for those of you holding onto any Galaxy S20 FE devices, there’s some bad news. “Last month, in October,” SamMobile says, “the Galaxy S20 FE completed five years on the market, and as expected, it has now reached the end of its software support lifecycle.” That means no more Android upgrades or critical security updates.

As SamMobile says, “if you want to keep your phone secure against the latest threats, it’s time to consider an upgrade.” You don’t want to join the billion-plus Android users running phones that are fallen off support. All those phones are now at risk.
