After unveiling its early Black Friday sales last week, Samsung has launched a new promotion that knocks hundreds of dollars off its flagship phones.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has been discounted by $500 if bought directly from Samsung’s website and shoppers have no device to trade in. If a handset is swapped, Samsung has again upped prices for used phones. Alongside that Samsung is knocking a further $300 off the Galaxy Fold 6 when purchased in navy, pink or silver.

The trade-in prices are impressive, as has become typical for Samsung. The company says that it will pay up to $1200 for your old phone, but those high numbers are reserved for the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 5. The quoted $1200 figure is pure marketing because no one sane would trade either phone in.

But that doesn’t tell the full story because Samsung is offering some good prices for ancient tech. For example, the Korean company will pay $600 for the Apple iPhone 6, which debuted 10 years ago. Valuations for similarly old Galaxy phones are not as impressive, however. The 2016 Galaxy S7 Edge is priced at $300.

Here are some of the best trade-in prices I could find.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G – $800
  • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra – $600
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 – $600
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 – $800
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 FE – $400
  • Apple iPhone 6 – $600
  • Apple iPhone 7 – $500
  • Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max -$800
  • Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max – $760

You can buy an iPhone 6 from eBay or Swappa for under $50 right now. The same goes for devices like the Galaxy S20 FE, or iPhone 7. This is a no-brainer if you are planning to buy the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

I have noticed that Samsung will offer far better trade-in prices for Apple smartphones when buying its foldable products, which might be related to the reality that Apple doesn’t have a rival handset in this area. Perhaps the sales data shows that iPhone owners are intrigued by foldable tech and need that final financial incentive to make the switch.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is also discounted. Samsung has upped trade-in prices and knocked a further $100 off the device if bought in select colors. Without the trade-in there’s a $150 straight money-off discount. The Galaxy S24 Ultra also comes with a $150 straight money-off discount if no phone is traded in alongside free double storage, which totals $270 off the device.
