The annual IFA tradeshow kicks off tomorrow in Berlin, and today Lenovo’s Legion GO handheld is no longer available for purchase on Lenovo’s various European websites. That doesn’t feel like a coincidence, and may be a strong indication that an announcement of a new Legion GO — or additional models of the handheld gaming PC — is imminent.
This morning a user on Reddit tried to purchase a new Legion GO from Lenovo’s UK website and was met with a greyed-out image of the device and the message “currently not available on Lenovo.com.”
That prompted me to try localized versions of Lenovo’s other European storefronts. I received the same exact message for Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and France. Some of the sites flashed a giant white banner above the product listing which reads “We’re sorry, this product is no longer available.”
Additionally, several Legion GO accessories are on discount.
Given the timing, this being a temporary regional supply issue seems unlikely. However, it’s worth mentioning that the device is still available to buy in the US and Canadian Lenovo stores.
Despite Lenovo’s clever, non-committal answer when I asked about the curious update to the Legion GO site last month, it’s seeming more and more likely that a refresh of some kind is incoming. IFA is the perfect global stage for Lenovo to reveal its future plans for the Legion GO.
The leadup to IFA has already produced some big news in the handheld gaming space. Earlier this week, MSI revealed its upcoming Claw 8 AI+ handheld using Intel’s Lunar Lake, and Acer entered the market with its Nitro Blaze 7.
I’ve reached out to Lenovo PR and will keep you posted if and when the company responds (last time it took several days, but an answer did arrive).
