Rogbid is not a household name even among tech nerd circles, but its new SR08 Ultra pulls focus by cramming in tech rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Ring and Oura Ring don’t.
Rogbid claims the SR08 Ultra is the “world’s first smart ring with a display,” an OLED touch panel. There are no specs on its size, but its maker’s rendered images suggest it takes up most of the width of the ring, and perhaps somewhere between a quarter and a third of its circumference.
A touch interface lets the SR08 Ultra behave more like a fitness watch than a smart ring, whose typical job is to harvest stats while attracting or requiring virtually no attention at all.
Rogbid SR08 Ultra Features
There are activity tracking modes including “hiking, cycling, running and more,” and while Gizmochina’s report on the ring suggests it has GPS, this must be Connected GPS rather than the real deal.
Connected GPS is where a device uses, typically, a connected phone’s GPS signal rather than its own antenna, to record location data. Full GPS is generally too battery-intensive for current smart rings, and the required antenna likely too large.
The SR08 Ultra is 2.5mm thick weighs 4g according to Rogbid’s stats, and has an outer veneer of titanium armour atop a plastic “epoxy” inner casing.
Claims about its stat gathering are also a match for most of its key competitors. There’s all-day heart rate tracking, step counting, sleep tracking, blood oxygenation readings, and the screen lets you use the Rogbid SR08 Ultra as a watch-replacer.
It doesn’t take too much of an eagle eye to spot not as much attention has been put into the SR08 Ultra as, say, a Samsung Galaxy Watch, though.
Among its marketing materials you’ll find a mention of “127/80 mm Hg” in reference to its SpO2 blood oxygenation feature. But this is a measurement that relates to blood pressure — not something the SR08 Ultra can measure, and a stat that would be a lot harder to measure with the watch’s own hardware.
The price is much lower than that of bigger-name smart rings that take a more conventional approach, though. It is currently listed at $89.99, with an original stated cost of $189.99.
Rogbid says the SR08 Ultra’s battery lasts 3-5 days, and it includes a magnetic charger case with a battery, similar to the kind used by true wireless earphones. It’s rated for 5ATM water resistance too, so will shrug off being worn in the shower or for surface-level swimming.
No unboxing videos have been posted online to show if the SR08 Ultra looks as good in the flesh as it does in renders. But it can’t be too long until they are.
