In case you missed Thursday’s NYT Mini Crossword puzzle, you can find the answers here:

Friday is named after the god Freya or Freyja, the most famous goddess in Norse mythology and counterpart to Venus in Roman mythology. In Romance languages like Spanish, Friday is named after Venus instead—Viernes, for instance—but each day is similarly named. Both Freyja and Venus are goddesses of fertility, beauty, passion and sexuality. Freyja, however, is a more warlike goddess, and even has a part in selecting warriors for her hall in the afterlife. I mention all of this because it is Friday, at last. The first Friday of 2025 and the last weekend of Christmas break for many children and teachers across the country. Enjoy your weekend and your freedom! Now let’s solve this Mini Crossword!

The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it’s free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you’ll need the app to tackle the archive.

Well, I blasted through today’s Mini Crossword. I wasn’t sure about 1-Across so I skipped ahead and got the next three. Once again, I wasn’t sure about 9-Across so I moved to down, where pretty much everything fell into place instantly, filling in the ones I’d skipped. All in all, this took just 35 seconds today! I think that’s my fastest so far. Not too shabby!
