In case you missed Sunday’s NYT Mini Crossword puzzle, you can find the answers here:
The week has begun once again, as it always does each and every Monday, unless you’re one of those people who considers Sunday the start of the week, in which case I think you might be a crazy person. I’m on the road this Monday on a little solo trip, but I’ll still be writing my Wordle and Mini Crossword guides. Buckle up, let’s do this thing!
The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it’s free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you’ll need the app to tackle the archive.
One good tactic with crossword puzzles is to try to get as many ACROSS as possible first and then you’ll find a lot of the DOWN are already done—or vice versa if the ones ACROSS are trickier.
While some of today’s words are pretty simple, some might have you stumped. You’ll find the answers below. Spoilers ahead, obviously. Skip ahead for the image of today’s solved puzzle.
ACROSS
1 — Soccer player’s prominent muscle — CALF
5 — Member of an underwater colony — CORAL
6 — Mario’s twin — LUIGI
7 — Fluster — UPSET
8 — Source of a buzz…with or without its last letter — BEER
DOWN
1 — Two-door car — COUPE
2 — Get up or come up — ARISE
3 — Light-colored variety of 8-across — LAGER
4 — Move swiftly, like a butterfly — FLIT
5 — ♣ — CLUB
I got a little turned around and flustered on this one, but I think that’s because I’m in a hurry and traveling and it just has me a bit off my game. Of all these clues the buzz was the best, because with its last letter a BEER gives you a buzz, and without its last letter it’s a bee buzzing. Overall, a fairly straightforward puzzle but words like COUPE evaded me for a spell, and even though I thought of a coral reef, I didn’t think to use CORAL right away. Silly me. How did you do? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
If you also play Wordle, I write guides about that as well. You can find those and all my TV guides, reviews and much more here on my blog. Thanks for reading!
