In case you missed Saturday’s NYT Mini Crossword puzzle, you can find the answers here:

It’s the day of the Big Game (almost). The Sunday NYT Mini Crossword comes out at 3pm on Saturday, which is a bit confusing, but since this is still a Sunday crossword puzzle I’m going to refer to today as, well, tomorrow. In any case, it’s Super Bowl LIX this Sunday and we get to see if the Chiefs can pull off a third win in a row, setting a new Super Bowl record, or if the Eagles can put Kansas City’s ambitions to rest.

I also have my weekend streaming guide out, so if you’re looking for something other than football to watch, click the link below. Now let’s solve this Mini!

The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it’s free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you’ll need the app to tackle the archive.

CLUES

1 Across refers to felines.

4 Across refers to his team.

1 Down is a word that describes a bunch of people saying this together.

2 Down works as well if you’re talking about a gun or anything else you have to accurately shoot or throw.

Spoilers ahead!

ACROSS

1- Bengal or lion — CAT

4- Patrick Mahomes, for his entire N.F.L. career — CHIEF

6- Kendrick ____, Super Bowl LIX halftime act — LAMAR

7- Opposing side — ENEMY

9- Super Bowl scores, for short — TDS

DOWN

1- “E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!,” for one — CHANT

2- Targeted, as a football throw — AIMED

3- Play groups? — TEAMS

4- The Browns, on NFL scoreboards — CLE

5- Cook in the pan — FRY

It’s nice to see the NYT Mini Crossword go big with the Super Bowl theme today. I’m not surprised. Wordle doesn’t really do themes anymore after some people complained. It’s fun in a crossword, however. I knew a lot of these right off the bat but some stuck me. ENEMY seems like an odd choice of word to describe your opposing side in a football game. I’m not sure what the Cook in a pan / fry reference is all about. I’m a bit tired today and I took my time on this one, getting it in 1:40. Enjoy the Super Bowl!

How did you do? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.

If you also play Wordle, I write guides about that as well. You can find those and all my TV guides, reviews and much more here on my blog. Thanks for reading!
