In case you missed Wednesday’s NYT Mini Crossword puzzle, you can find the answers here:
Wednesday was the first day back at school for my kids, and the first day of high school for my youngest. That doesn’t make me feel old in the slightest. Not one little bit! School itself was a bit of a puzzle today, however, as they changed his schedule around at the very last minute and we had to rush in to try to salvage what we could of it. Juggling classes with the counselor—while the line of disgruntled students and parents, all with similar problems, amassed behind us—was definitely a type of puzzle, and one I do not care to repeat.
What I will repeat, day after day, is the New York Times Mini Crossword puzzle.
The Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it’s free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you’ll need the app to tackle the archive.
A few hints for the tougher ones in case you don’t just want the answers right away:
- 1 Across — Pirates will have you do this to the decks.
- 5 Across — Also known to come from witches.
- 8 Across — Better than a peso.
- 1 Down — She sells seashells down by
- 3 Down — This is two words mushed together.
- 5 Down — Think bikes.
While some of today’s words are pretty simple, some might have you stumped. You’ll find the answers below. Spoilers ahead, obviously. Skip ahead for the image of today’s solved puzzle.
ACROSS
1. Q-tip, for instance — SWAB
5. Bracelet dangler — CHARM
6. Pricey watchmaker with a crown logo — ROLEX
7. Rubs the wrong way — IRKS
8. Spanish for kiss — BESO
DOWN
1. Place to find seashells — SHORE
2. “Enjoys long ____ “ on the beach” — WALKS
3. Retort to “Am not!” — ARESO (Are so!”)
4. Stunt rider’s sport, for short — BMX
5. Bed with a blankie — CRIB
This one was tough for me because I was too committed to BEACH for 1 DOWN. Never, ever get too committed (unless you’re in love, and even then be careful!) It wasn’t until I tried to fit ROLEX into that equation that I realized something was amiss. Once I sort of worked out from the expensive watch, things slowly came to light. I knew Spanish for kiss—dame un beso—and bit by bit the other dominoes fell.
