Monday has returned. What did you think about that big House of the Dragon finale? Love it? Hate it? Already saw it when it leaked on TikTok?
I’m off to the races this week. I go to this gym called OrangeTheory and August is Marathon Month. You basically try to get X amount of miles in a month (around 13 for a half, 26 for a full and 31 for an ultra) in class on the treads. I’m going for the ultra this month, and I’m just 3.5 miles in but I’m aiming for 15 by the end of the week. I may not have much left in me after that, but such is the price for greatness.
And hey, I can still solve Wordles even if I am a sore mess. Let’s do today’s shall we?

Wordle Analysis
Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.
I opened today’s guessing game with DRAKE, not because of the rapper but because it’s a kind of dragon and dragons are on my mind. Sadly, I had 158 words remaining and but a single green ‘E’.
From here, SPOIL—as in the spoils of war!—slashed that number to just five, but only gave me one lousy yellow ‘S’. I could think of several words here, but the word I wanted it to be (for reasons having to do with a D&D campaign I’m currently running) was GEESE.
It was not GEESE. It was ENSUE, but at least I guessed that one correctly!
Competitive Wordle Score
I get 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Wordle Bot, who guessed in three. Drat! (For those still trying to follow my House of the Dragon silliness, the Wordle Bot is on Team Green. I am on Team Black.)
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “ensue” comes from Middle English “ensuen,” which in turn derives from Old French “ensuivre.” The Old French term itself originates from the Latin “insequī,” which is composed of “in-” (a prefix meaning “upon” or “towards”) and “sequī” (meaning “to follow”). Thus, “ensue” essentially means “to follow upon” or “to come after.”
