Looking for Wednesday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:
It’s Thor’s Day, which means that yesterday I gave readers a riddle to solve on top of the daily Wordle. Today I’ll give you the answer, though a number of you messaged me it already.
This was the riddle:
Ernie lives on the 30th floor of his Manhattan apartment building. Every morning, he takes the elevator down to the lobby and goes to work. Every evening, he takes the elevator from the lobby up to the 15th floor and walks the other 15 flights of stairs to his apartment, unless he’s riding with his roommate, Bert. On those days, they ride all the way to the 30th floor. There is nothing wrong with the elevator, because he takes it all the way down the next morning. Why does Ernie do this?
The answer: Ernie is too short too reach any of the floors above 15, so he has to walk the rest of the way up the stairs—except for days when he rides with his taller roomie, Bert. Next week’s riddle spoiler: Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?

Wordle Analysis
Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.
I think I’ve used CRONE before, and it was pretty good today with just 80 possible solutions left. Of course, with a lonely yellow ‘C’ it didn’t feel great as I was guessing. Also, words I wanted to do for my second guess like ‘STAIR’ or ‘STAIN’ were no good, so I finally went with MAGIC. This left me with 11 possible solutions, but at least I had a green ‘A’. I also came up with the word SAUCY as one of my guesses and I remembered I guessed that on my third guess yesterday and thought “How saucy would it be to guess this again and get it right?” I did not expect to be so SAUCY! Huzzah!
Competitive Wordle Score
I get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying the Bot, who I hate with a deep and burning passion.
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.

- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “saucy” has its origins in the Middle English word “sauci,” which came from the Old French word “saucé,” meaning “sauced” or “flavored with sauce.” The Old French term itself is derived from the Latin word “salsa,” the feminine form of “salsus,” which means “salted.” This Latin root also gives us the word “sauce,” as sauces were originally preparations with a salty or savory base.
The modern sense of “saucy” as being impudent, bold, or disrespectful evolved from the notion of someone being metaphorically “spiced up” or lively, similar to the way sauce adds flavor to food. The term began to take on this figurative meaning around the 16th century, suggesting a person who is lively or forward in a cheeky or insolent way.
