Looking for Monday’s Wordle hints, clues and answer? You can find them here:

It’s Wordle Wednesday and I’m back from my DC/NYC trip and mostly recovered from an exhausting day of travel Monday, though I was certainly lagging all day Tuesday. Since it’s Wordle Wednesday, we have a riddle to solve. This one is actually from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, one of the four shows I saw on Broadway this past weekend. The riddle is one the play’s heroes encounter when attempting to search through Minister of Magic Hermione Granger’s Ministry office bookcase. Don’t look it up! Here goes:

The first is the fourth, a disappointing mark

You’ll find it in parked but not in park.

The second is the less fair of those that walk on two legs.

Grubby, hairy a disease of the egg.

And the third is both a mountain to climb and a route to take.

A turn in the city, a glide through a lake.

What word, associated with the Harry Potter universe, can you make out of this? I’ll post the answer in tomorrow’s guide, but if you solve it shoot me a message on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. Let’s solve this riddle!

Can you solve today’s phrase?

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

I say, rather lacky today old chap. Who would have imagined that SPIRE would be such an inspired guess that I’d be left with just 1 possible remaining solution? I did have to think about it for a bit, but in the end the only word I could think of was STERN. And it was right!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 2 points for guessing in two and 1 for beating Wordle Bot, who took three tries today. If only this were 2XP Friday, my 3 points would be 6!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “stern” comes from the Old English styrne, meaning “severe” or “strict.” It traces back to Proto-Germanic sturnijaz, sharing roots with similar words in other Germanic languages, all conveying a sense of rigidity or harshness.
