It’s Thor’s Day which means that yesterday was Wordle Wednesday and I gave you an extra riddle to solve. Today, I’ll share the answer. This was yesterday’s riddle:
It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt.
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills.
It comes out first and follows after,
Ends life, kills laughter.
You may recognize this as yet another of the riddles from The Hobbit, during Bilbo and Gollum’s little contest in the goblin caves. The answer? Darkness.

Wordle Analysis
Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.
PLUME comes by way of plumbers, actually, though not in any linguistic sense. I had some plumbers out at my house doing some work and as I often do, I tried to think of a related word I could use for my first Wordle guess. PLUME was the best I could think of, but it was decidedly not a great opener, leaving me with a whopping 542 remaining possible solutions. CHAIR only slashed that to 85, and after my third guess—TENET—I still had four. NOSEY cut that down to just one and, thank goodness, I solved today’s Wordle with ENDOW on guess #5.
Competitive Wordle Score
I lose 1 point for guessing in five and another for losing to the Bot, who got today’s in three somehow. -2 for me! Yikes!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “endow” comes from the Middle English endowen, derived from the Anglo-French endower. This term itself traces back to the Late Latin dotare, meaning “to provide with a dowry” or “to furnish,” which stems from the Latin word dos (dowry or gift). Over time, its meaning expanded to include providing or equipping someone with qualities, abilities, or resources.
